James Denny letters [manuscript], 1896-1897.

Collection is comprised of letters to Denny's cousin, Mary E. Reyder of Portland, Oregon, from Kings Point, Yukon Territory (Nov. 10 and Nov. 20, 1896) and Point Barrow, Alaska (Oct. 10, 1897) telling of his work for the Pacific Steam Whaling Company, and of the loss of the whaling bark Jesse A. Freeman when the fleet was caught in the ice in September of 1897. Collection also includes a clipping from a 1898 newspaper describing the rescue of the fleet.
